While working, I get to spend a lot of time with a person's image. I think about the spirit, the personality that is revealed behind their eyes, and the colors that bring that spirit out. Painting is a messy job, too. I mix color and apply paint directly with my hands (no brushes), and find myself "sculpting" the light over the faces of these beautiful people. Every one of them is unique, and in their difference, their imperfections, I see their beauty and their perfection.
A portrait of a loved one is not just a painting of their image, it is a chance to celebrate their beauty and their spirit in a truly unique way.
